SSF provide family support at home via our social work program. Our dedicated social worker Viola provides practical and emotional support to the families we work with. Sadly some of these families still face rejection and stigma from their own families or the local community. It is great to have Viola’s voice out in the community challenging these misconceptions and empowering the parents to access the services they need.

Example programs have included improving independence and sanitation at home  by helping families to build low cost tip taps, drying racks or walking bars and providing advice on how to access appropriate medical treatment to meet the children’s specific needs.

We also run a peer support group for parents/carers of special needs children where the families get together to discuss the issues which affect them and offer support and advice based on their own experiences.
